StoryCorps #1

Story #1: Reflective Notes on StoryCorps Stories

Story Title: In New Orleans' Hardest Hit Neighborhood, A Recovery- by Sheer Will

Who was being interviewed and by whom? Burnell Cotton is being interviewed by his mother

Summary of story:

Burnell saved money that he earned from working at fast food restaurants and was able to have enough money to buy a old building and is able to turn it into his neighborhoods only grocery store.

As you listen, take note of anything that seems interesting, surprising, memorable, or touching.
That it was three and half years after the storm before they even had a grocery store back in the neighborhood.

Why did you choose this story?
It seemed like a feel good story from something that had been so terrible.

How did this story touch you or connect with your life?

It touched because this man gave everything he had to further the people he cared about.
What surprised you in the story or what did you learn that you did not know before?

It surprised me that it took so long to recover from something like a hurricane.

What questions did the interviewer ask?

How he was able to change his neighborhood?
How close was nearest stores?
What was the toughest part of the situation?
